Spiritual Armor Series Overview | Ephesians 6:10-16
Our culture relentlessly floods us with confusion—telling us TRUTH is whatever we want it to be, MORALITY can be bent, and IDENTITY is self-defined. Over time, this erodes clear thinking and weakens faith. That’s why the Armor of God is essential for every believer. It isn’t just ancient imagery—it’s incredibly relevant for Christians living in today’s culture.
This preaching/teaching platform, ChristianStrongTeaching.com, is dedicated to educating and equipping Christians to construct strong faith, grounded in biblical truth, armed with strong thinking, and empowered by God’s Spirit to influence culture with courage and conviction.
Thanks for joining me in this preaching series, Spiritual Armor, which includes six sermons that will help you understand the one passage in the Bible you would be wise to know thoroughly, which will guarantee your spiritual victory regardless of the challenge! Without spiritual armor, Christians absorb the culture’s lies. With it, they stand firm, resist temptation, and shine as witnesses for Christ. God’s truth secures our minds, His righteousness guards our hearts, His peace steadies our steps, faith shields us from doubt, salvation anchors our identity, His Word arms us against deception, and prayer keeps us connected to His strength. Without the armor, we’re defenseless against cultural lies—but with it, we can stand firm and live faithfully for Christ.
In Ephesians 6:10-18, our journey of faith is likened to a battlefield, marked by intense combat. The attack can become fierce—a life-or-death, hand-to-hand struggle—the meaning behind the word “wrestle.” Demonic foes launch “fiery darts” at the mind of the Christian. Have you experienced strange thoughts and wondered about their source? Our formidable adversaries comprise four military detachments: principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and evil spirits in heavenly places. Tragically, too many believers become casualties of war.
As Paul sat in prison in Rome, he studied the armor of the Roman soldiers guarding him when he wrote to the Ephesian Christians. He transitioned to the six pieces of spiritual armor that a Christian must “put on” every single day and apply in every situation. Let me help you learn precisely what is conveyed by:
The Belt of Truth,
The Breastplate of Righteousness,
The Shoes of Peace,
The Shield of Faith,
The Helmet of Salvation, and
The Sword of the Spirit.
As we closely examine these distinct pieces of spiritual armor verse by verse, we will develop confidence that we can overcome any obstacle confronting us. An unarmed, unprotected believer cannot wage war successfully. This magnificent Bible passage provides profound insight and help. Paul begins by encouraging us that we can be victors in this spiritual conflict by being strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. There is no need for fear or trepidation. Paul warns us that our real battle is not against flesh-and-blood enemies, so we must learn how to wage war successfully in the spiritual realm.90
Our world is a battlefield just as it was for the Ephesians. Located in their city was the Temple of Artemis (Diana), one of the largest and most magnificent temples, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. People were drawn from all over, attracted by the temple’s status as a banking center, a hub of cultic practices, and a place of sexual festivities. Decadence was normalized; Christian moral teaching frowned upon. Sound familiar?
When I visited modern-day, excavated Ephesus, I saw etched in the marble floor an ichthus (the Christian symbol meaning “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior”). Christians by the thousands lived in Ephesus, the location of one of antiquity’s megachurches, where John probably pastored and Mary, the mother of Jesus, also lived.
Take the journey with me, listening to all six messages as we study, word by word, this marvelous passage of Scripture. Together, we will discover that the pieces of spiritual armor are not only defensive but offensive! Like a well-trained muscle, you will learn how to lift your shield of faith and wield your sword of the Spirit—all cloaked in prayer, precision, integrity, and confidence in the incomparable power and strength of the Lord your God—and overcome any of life’s challenges.
There is no defeat for the Christian!
